All-girl team
Leading Ladies of Division Two won the Five Towns' Quiz League's Handicap Cup for 2017-17 by beating Vulcan Mosquitoes
of Division One without even needing the aid of the handicap, at the Final event at the Rock Inn in Glasshoughton.
Starting on 44 points to 14, ie 30 start, the Ladies' lead swung during the quiz from just above the
30 points start to just below and back again, but they were never in serious danger of losing the handicap game and in fact
without the benefit of the handicaps, won the match off scratch by 57 points to 55, a remarkable feat and the first time in
the FTQL's history that this has been achieved in a Handicap Cup Final.
The evening concluded with the ever-popular Open Pairs quiz set by Committee member Neil Aspland where pairings are
drawn out at random, in raffle style, and this was won by Simon Curtis of Flanagan's Army and Steve Clarke of G-Fivers.
Second place went to Duncan Cooper of Flanagan's Army playing with Roy Wood of Vulcan Bombers.
Attention now switches to next Monday's major Finals' Night at the George V WMC where the old firm of Wanderers
and Flanagan's Army will clash in the Knockout Cup Final and Vulcan Mosquitoes will take on Crofton WMC in the Plate Knockout
Final.
