Steve Clarke was by any measure of greatness,
most definitely a legend of the Five Towns Quiz League. He played in various different iterations of teams run by our
former legendary Chairperson Brenda Clayforth, at the Airedale Hotel, Redhill Hotel, Golden Lion Gems, G-Fivers and others
and managed to take part for 24 FTQL seasons in total, making 312 league appearances and currently lies 12th in the all-time
appearance-makers list, which obviously makes him as aforementioned, a total FTQL legend. Steve had an unfortunate
level of illness over I would say at least the last ten years of his life, encompassing a number of times of enforced layoff
from leisure activities including quizzing or course, but over the years he was present a lot, making those 312 league appearances
and winning along the way a Division Two top average winner on three separate occasions, so a quality quiz player, a
Pairs Competition in 2018 (partnered by myself Simon Curtis!) and Division Two Championships once and two other promotions
over the years. Steve Clarke was
also a very quiet, unassuming and pleasant man and is a great loss to our family that is the Five Towns Quiz League.
