G-Fivers win Handicap Cup with three
The Handicap Cup Final was won by the G-Fivers of George V WMC in Glasshoughton, Castleford,
when they defeated Kippax British Legion by a score of 101 points to 97 (including the starting handicaps of 28 to G-Fivers
and 36 to Kippax - 8 point start to Kippax) to win the Handicap trophy that they have won twice before, in 2006 and 2013.
started at 8 points start to Kippax and was close all the way through, with Kippax taking a lead in the first half of the
quiz but G-Fivers slowly pulled that back and after Round 7 the match was tied at 79-79. G-Fivers then won
two of the last three rounds to win the cup by the narrow margin of 4 points, by 101 to 97. But the remarkable aspect
of this win was that they did it with the less than full complement of players, having three instead of four!
now traditional Pairs Competition was set by Neil Aspland again and this year's winning pair was Michael Steer and
Liz Clapham, both of Olde Taverners.
Olde Taverners will now meet Flanagan's Army in the Knockout Cup Final at next week's major Finals' Night
at the George V WMC whilst Vulcan Bombers will take on Vulcan Mosquitoes in the Plate Knockout competition.
